Poor Petes Hut | Kahurangi National Park

For those who have just completed the 700 m climb up from Lake Matiri to the Thousand Acre Plateau, Poor Petes Hut is a convenient stopping point from which it’s possible to climb The Needle as a day walk.

It’s a tight two-bunker with no heating, but it’s cosy enough. Remember to have a window open when cooking to avoid carbon monoxide asphyxiation. That might just spoil your evening.
