Matiri Ridge tarn campsite | Kahurangi National Park

A Matiri Ridge tarn is the only reliable water source between Wangapeka Saddle and Hurricane Hut. And it makes a convenient place to camp for those who think the full 12-hour walking day is excessive.

There’s not so much at the tarn, but there are a few mostly non-lumpy, almost level and somewhat sheltered camping sites to whack up your tent and enjoy the sunset and sunrise at altitude.
